What Does HERS Mean?

The HERS Index (Home Energy Rating System) is used to measure a home’s energy efficiency. Tests are performed measuring thermal efficiency to calculate a home’s index score. The lower your home’s HERS Index, the more energy efficient it is. Learn more about the HERS Index at energystar.gov.

Want to see how energy improvements can impact your home?

No problem! We’ve created the TXU Energy Power Saver Challenge Simulator so you can get a good idea of what the HERS Index is and the impact that typical home upgrades have on the HERS Index — you can even select a home from the same decade as yours.

This is my first home to own and I have little experience with making and keeping it energy efficient. I know my house has great potential for saving energy and I am looking forward to following the contestants and learning from their improvements. If I can learn to reduce my energy usage there will be more for others. I am excited about this opportunity!
